Model
designations are not usually a problem in this class. Trade practice indicates widespread use of
numeric or alpha-numeric designations as trademarks. As indicated previously, however, alphabetic designations may be
used as descriptive terms for speed ratings or tire ratings. See In
re Clairol, Inc. 229 USPQ 355 (CCPA 1972) and In re Peterson Manufacturing, 229 USPQ 466 (TTAB 1986) (concerning
a model designation also used as a trademark).
